Martha Stott

It’s the summer of 1969, and twelve-year-old Grace has been uprooted from Dallas and deposited in Scrub Oak, Texas, after her parents’ divorce.
With no friends, no library, and a brother more interested in baseball than keeping her company, Grace expects the summer to drag.
Then Grandpa’s truck is stolen during a flood, a valuable bull disappears, and Grace finds herself collecting clues no one else seems to notice. Between working in a watermelon field, caring for a scruffy new pony, and keeping an eye on two suspicious boys, she is determined to solve both mysteries—and prove that being twelve does not mean being useless.
Set against the backdrop of the moon landing and the Vietnam era, Bullheaded is a warm, lively mystery about family, friendship, and finding a place to belong.
Meet Martha
Martha Stott grew up in Texas, where she spent summer on her grandparents' farm and hours reading every kid's book about horses that she could find. Some of her favorites were Misty of Chincoteague, King of the Wind, and Come On Seabiscuit.
Fifty years later, Martha adopted a pony from a kill auction in Texas. She spent two years riding Toby before hanging up her spurs to fulfill a lifelong writing dream.
